World Intellectual Property Day – April 26, 2021

This year’s theme - IP & SMEs: Taking your ideas to market

SMEs are really the backbone of any economy and on many areas SMEs are also driven by innovation. Many SMEs will hire people when they grow, they are nimble enough to adapt to the needs of the market, they are close enough to the consumers to pick up on trends at an early stage, passionate enough to act on the information and also, more often than not, these companies have the potential to create growth based on a passion for innovation.

As with all who are frontrunners on the market and at the edge of innovation, it is imperative to find the right balance between offensive marketing and defensive strategies with regards to the very innovations which drive their business. For these SMEs, IP is often the backbone of their business and protection of the same can be what makes or (lack thereof) breaks a business venture.

So, if you have an idea, if you are on the verge of launching a novel design in this day and age of home improvement - do get your protection and registration in place before putting your product out there.
